Its inaugural main building occupied the very spot where the current College of Education stands proudly today. Mr. Maximo S. Binos assumed the role of the first Principal, leading VNATS on its path to excellence. In 1967, the school celebrated a significant milestone by producing its first batch of 31 graduates. The curriculum not only emphasized traditional secondary courses but also immersed students in the science and practice of agriculture, providing them with hands-on skills and knowledge.Campus life at VNATS possessed its own unique charm and characteristics, fostering a nurturing environment for its students:VNATSians were well-versed in parliamentary principles and rules, exhibiting their expertise by winning contests at the regional level.Students residing beyond a 10-kilometer radius were accommodated in dormitories constructed by their parents.Enrollees hailed from all corners of the province, walking to school and bringing packed lunches wrapped in banana leaves.VNATS students had the opportunity to earn money by engaging in various agricultural ventures facilitated by the school.Special working days were implemented, where teachers, administrators, and students labored together in the fields, fostering a sense of unity and community.Regular gatherings or "pabayle" were held on campus, offering young teachers a respite from rural life and giving students a chance to socialize and establish connections for the future.VNATSians encountered occasional teasing by being referred to as "taga pulang-lupa" (people from the red soil), but they proudly shrugged it off, knowing they were receiving a top-notch education and were well-versed in parliamentary procedures.The final batch of VNATS students received their diplomas in March 1972, marking the culmination of an era. In total, VNATS produced six batches, comprising 232 graduates. Shortly after the last graduation, Catanduanes State Colleges opened its doors for enrollment in graduate courses during the summer of 1972.Bikol historian Dr. Danny Gerona notes the possibility of a precursor school, reminiscent of the "farm schools" established by the Americans in the pre-war era. To ensure that environmental considerations associated with university projects are addressed, the Office of the Assistant Vice President for Admin and Financial Affairs, led by Dr. Art I. Tabirara, established the CatSU Environmental Impact Statement Team (EIS) at Catanduanes State University (CatSU).Assisted by Engr. Rafael R. Manoguid, CatSU Pollution Control Officer, and Dr. Ramon F. Samonte, CatSU Panganiban Campus OIC-Director, the EIS Workshop formulation took place on June 5, 2023, at the Accreditation Room.The workshop focused on EIS Formulation and Assessment and aimed to systematically evaluate the potential environmental effects of proposed university projects, including economic zones for CatSU and other infrastructure projects.According to Engr. Manoguid, the purpose of the workshop was to provide decision-makers, stakeholders, and the public with comprehensive information and analysis regarding the PEZA projects. It aimed to assess the potential impacts on the environment, as well as associated risks and benefits to various environmental components such as air quality, water resources, ecosystems, biodiversity, cultural heritage, and social aspects.The primary goals of the workshop can be summarized as follows: identify and assess direct and indirect environmental impacts, predict and evaluate alternatives, enhance project design and planning, facilitate public participation, and promote sustainable development."In line with our SUC president's Vision of HOPE and with economic zones for the university, we want to ensure that we are able to facilitate decision-making and promote sustainable development. We also want to determine if there are more environmentally friendly options available and ensure that the projects are carried out in an environmentally responsible manner," Engr. Manoguid said.Engr. Benjamin Hannycel T. Nuyda, Planning and Development Officer, presented the university's Land Utilization and Development Plan for both the Main and Panganiban Campuses. During the 7th Abaca Festival, Dr. Patrick Alain T. Azanza, President of Catanduanes State University (CatSU), reaffirmed the university's unwavering support for the abaca industry and the province's abaca farmers.At the opening program of the Abaca-nobasyon: A Science, Technology, and Innovation Conference held at the Virac Sports Complex on May 24, 2023, Dr. Azanza announced that the CatSU Abaca Technology Innovation Center (ATIC) is collaborating closely with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) to establish a ₱30-million research facility. The facility aims to expand the applications of abaca and address issues related to abaca diseases.“Nauugma kita ngunyan dahil ang DOST mismo nagsabi, they will put in around 30 million budget for research digdi sa abaca sa Catanduanes. Dr. Patrick Alain T. Azanza, President of Catanduanes State University (CatSU), recently announced on Facebook the completion of several infrastructure projects on the campus.Among the newly built facilities are a Grandstand located near the Oval and an Olympic-size swimming pool, complete with separate male and female quarters, equipped with benches, shower rooms, and toilets. These additions provide convenient and comfortable changing facilities for students participating in sports activities.The Grandstand also includes two spacious rooms downstairs, offering versatile options for physical education classes, gym sessions, or other sports activities. This expansion provides students with additional indoor spaces dedicated to physical education and sports, enhancing their overall experience on campus.Starting from the 2023-2024 academic year, swimming subjects will be included in the physical education curriculum, adding excitement among students. Azanza through Office Order No. 021, s. 2023.Prof. Delluza obtained her Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering from Adamson University and completed her Master's Degree in Information Systems at the University of the Philippines-Los Baños.She also earned 21 units for her Doctorate in Information Technology as a CHED Scholar at the Technological Institute of the Philippines.As the new Dean of CICT, Prof. Delluza's responsibilities include overseeing curriculum revision/implementation in accordance with OBE requirements, developing and redirecting programs in compliance with the University's Vision, Mission, and Goals, implementing specific policies and programs for the college, preparing budget proposals, and providing leadership and workable arrangements for faculty growth and development.Delluza has been involved in different committees throughout the years, including the Thesis Specialization Committee for Bachelor of Science in Information System and the Technical Working Group (TWG) to Acquire Funding for Smart Campus University, where she serves as the Chairperson and Co-chairperson, respectively.She also became the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of Management Information Services (MIS) in 2021, where she accomplished the CatSU email services and the Online Student and Faculty Portals.Before becoming the Dean in 2016, Prof. Delluza served as the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of CICT from 2014-2015.She also served as the Chairperson of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) from 2009-2013 before joining CatSU as an Assistant Professor I in 2012.Furthermore, Prof. Delluza is a published research author and has presented at institutional, national, and international research conferences. She received the Best Presentation Award from the 2018 International Academy of Computing Technology and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the Award of Excellence in Research Publication given by CatSU in 2020.Delluza's appointment as the new CICT Dean of CatSU is expected to lead the college, its students, and faculty to reach new heights and become globally competitive, research-focused, and innovation-driven. With her undeniable expertise in the field of ICT, research, and teaching, she is the right woman for the job, continuing the exceptional leadership of Dr. Gemma G. Dr. Patrick Alain T. Azanza, the President of Catanduanes State University (CatSU), shared in his Facebook post the exciting news of an upcoming donation from Bicol Isarog.The transport company, headed by Bryan Cu, has generously offered to donate a second-hand air-conditioned bus to CatSU, set to be delivered in May 2023. The bus will be painted with the university's logo, signifying its new purpose in service of the academic community.The donation follows a series of conversations between Dr. Azanza and Bryan Cu, in which the CatSU President expressed the university's need for additional transportation options.This second-hand bus will complement four brand new buses that CatSU plans to acquire through internally generated funds.Dr. Azanza envisions the donated bus to function as a "Mobile University," providing capacity development opportunities for faculty, students, and employees of other agencies, including local farmers, fisherfolk, and entrepreneurs across the 11 towns of Catanduanes Island.“We will bring CatSU to them instead of waiting for them to come to CatSU campuses,” Dr. Azanza said.By bringing the university to these communities, CatSU aims to make education and skill-building more accessible to those who might not be able to visit its campuses.The CatSU President expressed his gratitude to Catanduanes Governor Joseph “Boboy” C. Catanduanes State University (CatSU) received a significant upgrade during the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) budget hearing in Legaspi City on April 18, 2023.According to CatSU President Dr. Patrick Alain T. Azanza, the university's request to purchase four busses, one SUV, and a motorcycle has been approved, with funding sourced from the institution's internally generated income.This positive development comes as a relief to CatSU students and employees who have long desired better transportation services.Dr. Azanza emphasized that the funds used for the purchase come from CatSU's own earnings, demonstrating the university's commitment to use its resources efficiently and effectively for the benefit of the entire community.In addition to the transportation upgrades, the budget hearing also resulted in the approval of 47 new permanent item positions at CatSU.Dr. Azanza stated that these positions would be filled based on meritocracy, ensuring a fair and transparent selection process without favoritism.
