CatSU President Azanza unveils exciting prospects for Catanduanes’ Economic Zones

Administration

In his message during the groundbreaking ceremony for Catanduanes State University Agro-Industrial and Economic Processing Zone and the Knowledge and Innovation Science Technology (KIST) Economic Zone, CatSU President Dr. Patrick Alain T. Azanza expressed his gratitude to everyone involved in turning a collective dream into a reality.

He referred to the establishment of an economic zone as the key to unlocking the full potential of Virac City and the entire province of Catanduanes.

President Azanza acknowledged the significance of collaboration and teamwork in achieving progress.

"Ini po produkto kan pagtarabang tabang nita gabos.”

He extended his appreciation to all those who contributed to making this long-held aspiration come true.

The economic zone's establishment will bring Catanduanes closer to realizing the determined vision of a friendship bridge connecting Catanduanes and Camarines Sur, as advocated by Congressman Eulogio R. Rodriguez.

“The Congressman’s dream of having a friendship bridge between Virac and Camarines Sur is very much possible as he himself said that the precursor of the friendship bridge lies in the success of the economic zone which could justify the funding, the support of the construction of the friendship bridge,” Dr. Azanza said.

The 7th President of CatSU underlined that the University acts as the prime mover of the collaborative initiatives undertaken by every municipality in the province. The economic zone has already attracted significant interest from investors, including two companies from the United States specializing in the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector, who are eager to invest in Catanduanes.

An integral aspect of the economic zone's development is the inclusion of teachers, researchers, and students in the economic activities of the locators. This provision within the contracts ensures that companies located within the economic zone become an economic playground for students. As a result, students will directly benefit from exposure to advanced knowledge and industry applications, while teachers and researchers will be duly compensated upon integration into the economic locators.

Furthermore, the compensation received from the economic locators will be directly allocated to the advancement of laboratories and academic facilities, enhancing the learning environment for CatSU students and faculty.

President Azanza emphasized that the collaboration between the economic locators and the stakeholders of the island will be a mutually beneficial endeavor. This shared vision aims to uplift the economic status of Catanduanes while providing valuable opportunities for its residents.

The inauguration of Catanduanes' economic zone is a milestone, marking it as one of the pioneering ecozones established during the term of then Governor, now President of the Republic of the Philippines, Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos (PBBM).

The development sets the stage for a prosperous future, empowering the province and its people to thrive in a dynamic and evolving economic landscape.

“Ini po para sa future kan satuyang mga kaakian, estudyante bako sana sa CatSU kundi sa bilog na probinsya nin satuyang mahal na islang Catanduanes,” Dr. Azanza said.  #FJBT
