Catanduanes State University - Virac, Catanduanes
SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being
March 12, 2026
Aiming to support local farmers and families affected by Super Typhoon Uwan in November 2025, the faculty, staff, and students of the Catanduanes State University (CatSU) College of Business and Accountancy (CBA) conducted an outreach activity for members of the Mabato Abaca Farmers Association (MAFA) in Brgy. Mabato, San Miguel, Catanduanes on March 11, 2026.
The activity, titled “EmpowerTHEM: An Outreach Activity at Mabato, San Miguel,” is part of the university’s extension program “Agripreneurship Empowerment: Developing Entrepreneurial Competencies for Sustainable Development among Abaca Farmers.”
Project head Vivienne May Rubio-Valenzuela, a CBA faculty member, welcomed the participants and thanked those who supported the outreach. Guest Fr. Joseph B. Saratan also encouraged the community to continue helping one another and to be inspired to share with others.
Beneficiaries received cereals, canned goods, clothing, hygiene products, and accessories. Many of the items were donated from the United States through Ms. Anita A. Gutierrez, along with pre-loved clothes from CatSU-CBA faculty and staff.
The activity also featured a Sharing of Blessings, where donations were given to selected families, especially those whose homes were severely damaged by the super typhoon.
Through initiatives like this, CatSU continues to support local communities and promote the welfare of abaca farmers in the province.
