Catanduanes State University (CatSU) has received a significant boost to its research initiatives with the announcement of a two million pesos Futures Thinking fund.
The funding was announced by CatSU President Dr. Gemma G. Acedo in her message on the first day of a research seminar-workshop held Monday, November 3, 2025 at E-Crown Hotel and Resort.
Dr. Acedo shared the good news, which was relayed to her by the secretary of Sen. Pia S. Cayetano, who chairs the Senate Committee on Sustainable Development Goals, Innovation, and Futures Thinking.
The CatSU president congratulated Research and Development Services (RDS) Director Dr. Jose Z. Tria for the success in securing the grant.
The P2 Million funding aligns with the university's push to strengthen its "culture of research and innovation," as shared by Dr. Acedo.
She likewise urged the participants to continue nurturing "a generation of writers and researchers who are not only competent and productive but also visionary and socially responsive.”
The two-day seminar, organized by RDS, titled 'Translating Completed Research into Impact: A Futures Thinking Approach to Scientific Writing for High-Impact Journal Publications’ was attended by faculty and student-researchers from nine colleges, including Panganiban Campus. The seminar aims to refine research articles for journal submission.
Meanwhile, Dr. Roberto B. Barba, Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension, and Production Affairs (VPREPA), shared a 'no output, no certificate' challenge in his message, stressing the expectation for participants to submit their articles to a journal.
Dr. Tria supported this call, requiring participants to present acknowledgment of submission to a journal publication at the end of the event.
The first day consisted of four plenary discussions led by Dr. Tria, OIC VPREPA Dr. Barba, and OIC Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Kristian Q. Aldea. Breakout sessions and workshops are scheduled for the second day on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.
