September 27, 2025

Catanduanes State University (CatSU) earned recognition at the World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI) Global Conference 2025 and signed a partnership with Tongmyong University of Busan to strengthen academic collaboration.
Dir. Zyra Mae T. Tumala of the Center for International Relations and CPD Services, represented CatSU at the September 24–26 conference where she presented the university’s innovative programs. WURI cited CatSU for initiatives that advance creativity, social impact, and education.
CatSU and Tongmyong University, led by President Dr. Sang Chun Lee, formalized their partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding that covers student and faculty exchanges, joint academic and RISE projects, and language education and training. The agreement supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal on Quality Education by expanding inclusive and equitable opportunities.
In a Facebook post, Tumala thanked SUC President III Dr. Gemma G. Acedo and the Board of Trustees for their trust.
“It was truly a rare and meaningful opportunity to attend an international conference and to take part in the MOU signing on behalf of our institution. This experience has been an eye-opener that broadened my perspective and inspired me to push forward with greater dedication,” she wrote.
Acedo said CatSU is pushing ahead with its internationalization agenda, with focus on student and faculty mobility and research collaboration.
“We envision CatSU as a globally engaged university. Partnerships like this with Tongmyong University open more doors for our students and faculty,” she said.
