On the second day of the Futures Thinking in Action workshop, held on August 19, Catanduanes State University (CatSU) and the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) focused on assessment strategies aligned with Outcomes-Based Education (OBE).
Dr. Arthur I. Tabirara, CatSU Vice President for Administrative and Financial Affairs, emphasized the workshop’s role in promoting education as a tool for social development and sustainability.
He noted the growing relevance of microcredentials and career-focused learning in adapting to evolving workforce demands.
He also shared that the event is aligned with CatSU President Dr. Gemma G. Acedo’s vision of restoring the university’s legacy of academic excellence and producing top-performing graduates across disciplines.
“This complements our president’s vision of bringing back the university’s glory—producing board topnotchers across colleges,” Dr. Tabirara said.
Dr. Rufo Gil Z. Albor of UPLB’s College of Human Ecology highlighted assessment as key to informed decision-making in education.
He distinguished between formative and summative assessments and emphasized the need for valid and reliable tools. “What can be measured, can be managed,” he noted.
Dr. Inero V. Ancho, Chair of UPLB’s Department of Human and Family Development Studies, discussed the course syllabus as both a curriculum blueprint and a compliance document aligned with institutional and global standards.
The three-day workshop, which began on August 18, will conclude on August 20 with sessions on syllabus writing and presentation.
