Faculty members of Catanduanes State University (CatSU) are casting their votes today, August 29, to elect the next set of Federated Faculty Union (FFU) officers who will serve from 2025 to 2027. The newly elected president will also sit as Faculty Regent in the University Board of Regents (BOR), the highest governing body of CatSU.
Contending for the presidency are incumbent Faculty Regent Danilo O. Murillo of the College of Science, Moreno D. Tabios Jr. of the College of Science, and Ronnie B. Santelices of the College of Engineering and Architecture.
Earlier this morning, candidates presented their platforms during a general rally at the University Lobby, attended by faculty members from both campuses. Voting is ongoing at the Extension Hall.
Reminding both voters and candidates of the significance of the exercise, Chief Administrative Officer Atty. Gregorio M. Sarmiento Jr. stressed that electing union leaders is not just procedural but an affirmation of academic rights.
“This gathering shows your concern to exercise your rights as members of the academe. The Faculty Regent will be the one to elevate or defend your concerns before the BOR,” he said.
Meanwhile, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Kristian Q. Aldea, speaking on behalf of University President Dr. Gemma G. Acedo, emphasized the broader implications of the election.
“This is more than just an election process—it is important to the university’s projections and direction moving forward,” he said.
The outcome of the elections will shape the union’s future and the faculty’s collective voice in shaping policies and programs at the university’s highest decision-making level.
