Brief Description

The College of Business and Accountancy, formerly the College of Commerce and the College of Business Administration has stood through the test of time no matter what name it may be called. It is one of the academic units established during the Catanduanes State Colleges inception in 1972. On its first year of operations, the College is under the supervision of Dean Jose Balmaceda of the College of Arts and Sciences. After a year, however, a full-time dean was appointed in the name of Dean Nemia Ubalde.

The past deans of the College were: Prof. Jose N. Medallada; Prof. Teresita A. Tablizo; Dr. Lily P. Custodio; Prof. Danilo Arcilla; Dr. Gabriel Rodulfo; Dr. Rufino Soriao; Dr. Pedrito Jose Bermudo; Prof. Jerry T. Ang; and Prof. Ma. Theresa E. Sarmiento. At present it is headed by Prof. Esperanza P. San Juan on which similar commitment to excellence is being carried out to sustain the initiatives and successes of the past administration.In order to keep abreast with the dynamic changes in business and technology, the College has voluntarily submitted all its programs except the newly implemented to accreditation to be able to know where it is at present and where it may be going. This strategic approach in managing the College epitomizes its sincere commitment for excellence and sustainability.

The College offers curricular programs that are attuned to the programs of the Commission on Higher Education(CHED) and are in consonance with the needs of the industry and other business-related stakeholders.The College of Business and Accountancy upholds and strives to maintain global standards required by the business industry and education laden with the highest standards of professional ethics thru commitment, excellence and sustainability.

  • Formulate, update and implement relevant undergraduate programs in business and accountancy education;
  • Prepare students to become future accountants, business executives, entrepreneurs, and office administrators;
  • Provide students with foundation in the pursuit of higher education such as Law, Graduate and Post-graduate courses;
  • Ensure quality instruction by providing competent and highly qualified professors, relevant curricula, and state-of-the-art facilities;
  • Enhance the competence of students through on-the-job training exposure and/or engaging in actual business operations;
  • Strive to maintain a passing percentage in the CPA Board Licensure Examination that is above the national passing rate;
  • Explore potential developments in regional, national and international student education;
  • Provide for professional growth and development of faculty members;
  • Encourage and facilitate more research, and make significant contributions to the academic and professional literature;
  • Contribute to the socio-economic viability of the community within the scope of the College’s professional competence through the conduct of relevant extension services;
  • Engage in income generating activities through the production and sale of instructional materials and other knowledge-based income generating ventures;
  • Increase interaction with other Schools of Business and other professional bodies as well as with government and non-government agencies locally and internationally; and
  • Ensure the controlled development of the College and its activities.

Admission and Retention Policies for Accounting Education and Business Education and Management

A. Admission Policies

An applicant to be admitted to the program should meet the following requirements:

  • General Weighted Average (GWA) of 85% or better or its equivalent in High School; and
  • No grade lower than 85% or its equivalent in the final grade in any subject

The applicant qualifies to the program as determined by the College based on the following criteria:

For Transferees

A Transferee to be admitted to the program should have a GWA of 2.0 or better or its equivalent and no failing grade in any course.

For Shifters

Upon approval of the application to shift to another program, the shifter shall be subjected to the requirement for the transferee.

B. Retention Policies

A student shall be allowed to continue in the program subject to the following requirements:

Accounting Education
  • General Weighted Average of 2.2 or better for all courses, provided that the grade in Accounting 1 is not lower than 2.5;
  • Passing score of 65% in all written assessment for all Accounting courses; and
  • Failed courses be re-enrolled only once.
Business Education and Management
  • General Weighted Average of 2.2 or better for Business Management Education, Professional, and Elective courses in the preceding semester; and
  • Failed courses be re-enrolled only once.
